If you are in any Facebook groups right now, you likely have seen agents starting ‘follow trains’ to get followers on the new social media craze, Clubhouse. Immediately to follow the post are hundreds of comments begging for an invite or agents asking ‘what the heck is Clubhouse?’

In this post I’m going to break down what Clubhouse is, who it’s for, how to get in & as a real estate agent, how you can use this new form of social media for your business! 

WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE?

In short, Clubhouse is standing out by being the first ever audio-only social media app.

Clubhouse allows you to join rooms, chat with others, listen in on different topics & network with like minded people. The audio itself is not recorded so you have to catch it live.

It’s like a bunch of interactive, live podcasts and users are obsessed! 

WHO IS CLUBHOUSE FOR?

If you are lucky enough to become a member of Clubhouse early on you are in good company. While it’s in beta testing the app is filled with major influencers (like Oprah!), artists & actors which is all pretty impressive. But on a business level you’ll get access to coaches, trainers & the opportunity to network with others both inside and outside of your niche.

SOUNDS GREAT! HOW TO I CHECK IT OUT?

Well, that’s the catch. One of the things that makes Clubhouse so appealing right now is that it is invite only. Currently, the app is only available to iPhone users. So if you do have an iPhone, you can download the app and reserve your name. (Sorry Android users – right now you are out of luck but Clubhouse has assured us that they are working on development for you, too.)

Once you reserve your handle, you’ll get a notification that a text will be sent to you once your account is ready.

Clubhouse is currently limiting the users it’s allowing on the platform while they work on features that will allow them a larger platform. So while you may get a text in a few days, others have been waiting weeks or longer to get in.

GETTING AN INVITE

You may see lots of hopeful Clubhousers-to-be filling the comments with ‘send me an invite please’! 🙏  That’s because there is one little hack to get into the app without waiting for Clubhouse to send you a text and that is by getting invited in.

When joining Clubhouse, members are granted 1 personal invite to share. This allows them to invite a friend that they think will love the app! As the member uses the platform they have the potential to unlock a couple of additional invites. But these invites are precious so members are dispersing them with care. You may even see some members attempting to sell their invites for $25 and up! (Ewww.)

HOW TO USE CLUBHOUSE FOR YOUR REAL ESTATE BUSINESS

Okay – so you finally got it! So you may be wondering, “How can I use this new social media for my real estate business?” Let’s chat about how you can leverage this new social media platform for your real estate business! Below are 5 ways this new app can help you!

CREATE A {YOUR CITY} ROOM
Creating a room for locals to pop in and chat, network and learn about events happening in your city is a great way to build an audience. You are immediately hosting a value packed space for locals to love!

HOST A LIVE HOME BUYER WORKSHOP
Imagine being able to host a weekly live home buyer workshop where potential buyers can join, learn about the home buying process and ask you one-on-one questions! What an amazing way to get leads!

START A SPECIAL INTEREST CLUB
Create a local book club, Bible study or other special interest club to connect with locals who share the same passion. This is a great way to connect with others outside of networking events & happy hours (especially during a pandemic).

FINAL THOUGHTS ON CLUBHOUSE

As a member of Clubhouse – I am loving all of the amazing value that I am able to get from it and I can easily see how this app is going to grow! It’s tapping into the need for us to connect in real time with others without having to worry about the video element attached. 

Do you need to get on Clubhouse? Of course not! You should pick and choose the platforms that work best for your business model. Don’t let FOMO stretch you so thin that you aren’t able to fully focus on doing one platform well! But if audio based social media sounds exciting to you – then getting on early can give you a chance to get comfortable with the app & grow with it!
